A STOP IN THE PARK by Peggy Strack was released this past week, and I bought it immediately. It's such a great book that I had to feature it as soon as possible.
Teaser:
Dash off to dinner, devour it so the girls don't become uninterested in the restaurant, then rush back home so everyone can take their places: Emily and Megan in front of the television; Jamie ogling the computer screen; and him upstairs in bed scanning fifteen hundred channels of digital cable, unsuccessfully seeking something of interest to watch until sleep set in. Ever since Jamie told him she was considerating a trial separation, he'd been walking on eggshells, and he was tired of it.

SYNOPSIS FROM GOODREADS:
Michael Stolis, a DC attorney, is frustrated by twelve-hour work days, tightly scheduled weekends, and his family's chaotic habits. He explodes over minor irritations like being stuck in traffic, and his tantrums need to stop. His disillusioned wife, Jamie, is sick of his anger outbursts, and wants him out of her life. Michael longs to reignite the passionate love they once felt for each other. Jamie prefers to spend her time fostering illicit Internet relationships. Michael had simply followed his Greek father's instructions for a successful life, but something went terribly wrong. A lucrative career, a Georgetown brownstone and a BMW coupe didn't deliver happiness as promised.
When his family is about to implode, Michael finds hope through Rufus, an astute retired bus driver he meets over a game of blitz chess in Dupont Circle. Michael is intrigued by Rufus's prescription for fulfillment, but is it too late to change a life, chase a dream, revive a marriage? Michael must decide how much he is prepared to lose if he embarks on a quest so very different from the world he created. Touching, romantic, and deeply provocative, A Stop in the Park, follows the story of a man and a woman who yearn to escape the trap of the modern American dream.

- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away -- you don't want to ruin the book for others)
- Share the title and author too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers.

Hmm...can't decide what I think of this one, whether I might like it or not. It does make me wonder what Rufus's prescription is. My teaser: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
ReplyDeleteRufus is a wise man, and Michael is lucky to have met him ... and that's all I'll say!
DeleteI've been in a eggshells situation. Not good at all! Maybe things will get better...

The author does a great job of presenting the family's situation in a believable way. You can't help but feel empathy for them.
DeleteInteresting teaser! Here is my teaser for this week
ReplyDeleteAre wild passion and an overflowing bank account the best prescriptions for a successful marriage, or maybe just a kink in the road, a trap to fulfilling the American dream?

I won't post a spoiler, so you'll have to read the book to find the answer to that question. However, I do believe in balance in life. Working all the time can't be good, but playing all the time isn't either.
DeleteGreat teaser--hope it has a happy ending!

ReplyDeleteHere's MY TUESDAY MEMES POST
I think you'd enjoy the story. I've always wondered if it's such a good idea to have every moment of our kids' lives scheduled -- or our lives, for that matter! That's part of what this book is about.
DeleteI'd be tired of walking on eggshells too. Either leave or don't, but don't make someone feel that way.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The main character (Michael) is at his breaking point. The story tells what he does about that and how that affects his family.
DeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHere is my teaser from MURDER TAKES TIME by Giacomo Giammatteo. It was GOOD...just finished it yesterday.

Definitely sounds like a long hard day....
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
Everybody has had days like that! But this describes Michael and Jamie's life every single day.
DeleteOh, Great Teaser! Sounds like an intense read. I hope you liked it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my teaser.
I did enjoy it. It was a well-written, memorable book.
DeleteSounds like they are stuck in a bit of a rut. Hope they work it out! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYou're right -- they are stuck in a rut. The story is how they deal with that.
DeleteThe opening confused me because of all the pronouns.I assumed the narrator was a woman and Jamie was a man and then I wasn't sure who "Him" was. The description makes it sound interesting. Here's Mine
ReplyDeleteSorry for the confusion! What I posted wasn't the opening -- it was two sentences from within the story.
DeleteAh, that teaser makes me kind of sad. Hope they work things out! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I was thinking of James Joyce/Roddy Doyle even though this isn't that similar to a stream-of-consciousness.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
