CONFESSIONS OF A CORPORATE SLUT by Jacqueline Gum is one of the best books I've read lately. No, it isn't about a woman who sleeps her way to success. It's about a wife who gives up her career and uses her intelligence, drive, and chutzpah to further her husband's business, but whose contribution isn't appreciated -- an unpaid woman who gives her talents away. The story has a delightful wry humor, and it's also sad, eye-opening, and thought-provoking.
TEASER:
Love doesn't die suddenly; it chips away in small pieces like paint on a windowsill. Every once in a while, the windowsill gets a fresh coat of paint and it takes a while for the chipping to start again.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away -- you don't want to ruin the book for others)
- Share the title and author too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers.

Hi Sandy,
ReplyDeleteThose really do have to be the best lines I have read from a book in some considerable time!
Reflective, poignant and even a little sad .... but oh! so true!
Even though this probably wouldn't be a book for me ... I love the cover art as well!
Thanks for sharing,
Yvonne
Hi Sandy,
ReplyDeleteA very thoughtful teaser, I enjoyed that!
Here's mine: I love Dan Brown
Great teaser pick. It's not my kind of read but I'm loving the tease.
ReplyDeleteInteresting analogy. Here is my teaser for this week.

The whole book is well-written, with lots of wry humor and original language. I enjoyed the writing almost as much as the plot and characters.
DeleteGreat choice! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I shared two teasers … hope you enjoy them!

Sounds like the title is misleading--good teaser! Glad you included the synopsis.

Thanks for this! I'm so flattered and I think you picked a great teaser from the book. Oddly enough, the title wasn't near as off-putting as it seems today...in this new day of Fifty Shades! It's my greatest hope that folks can get beyond the "word" to the substantive issues in the book. I appreciate this opportunity, and again, I humbly thank you :)
ReplyDeleteThat is actually a really good and interesting teaser.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and stopping by my TT earlier :)
Wow, I love the description of love "chipping away" in pieces; so very true. This one is going on my list.
