Teaser Tuesday - Bluebonnet Bride

 BLUEBONNET BRIDE
Why can't I discover the first book in a series first? Seems like I always come across the second or third installment before ever reading the first one! Today's Teaser book,
is the third in the Men of Stone Mountain series by Caroline Clemmons, and I just started reading it yesterday. It's a terrific book - great description, good plot, appealing main character - so I know I'll read the first two stories as well. Too bad I won't be reading them in sequence.

Here's today's Teaser, from 2% on my Kindle:

Winds sucked at her skirt so hard her shawl whipped away. She feared all her clothes would be ripped from her body.

Genre: Romance
Length: 210 Pages
Amazon Link:  Bluebonnet Bride

Goodreads Synopsis:
When a tornado provides Rosalyn with the opportunity to escape the gallows, she collects her daughter Lucy and flees. They travel far enough West that Rosalyn believes she’s gone to the ends of the earth. She hopes she and Lucy will be safe in this remote North Texas town where she embarks on a new life as a dressmaker. If only she could avoid contact with people, especially the handsome sheriff who pops up every time she turns around. She fears either she or her chatterbox daughter may slip and reveal too much.

Joel Stone has been content with his life, even if it’s not the one he’d dreamed. His younger brothers are married and living nearby, his aunts have moved to Radford Springs, and he is respected for the efficient job he does as sheriff. When he meets the new widow in town, his instant attraction staggers him. She appears uninterested, but he is determined to win her hand in marriage.

But life doesn’t turn out the way either Rosalyn or Joel plan. They overcome temporary obstacles, but what of the secret she protects? Can he save her from the gallows?

  1. I hate it when I get books out of order, but seem to do it all the time.

    That's quite the high wind.

    1. The author did a good job of making this a stand-alone novel, so it wasn't necessary to read the other two books first. But I still wish I had!

  2. We had winds like that here this weekend. Like you, I hate reading series books out of order. Much prefer to start from the beginning than the middle or end.

    1. Although I've never seen a tornado here in western Washington, we have fierce winds sometimes. I look at the trees behind my house and shudder.

  5. That is always happening to me, too....discovering later books in a series, so I'm always reading "out of order." lol

  6. I like the sound of this a lot! This happens to me too but I'm trying to check books out on Goodreads more before I start them so that I know if it's a part of a series or I check out the authors website. I hate that publishers no longer tell you if it's a part of a series...gah.....

    Here's my Teaser Tuesday

    1. I liked the book's title and premise, but I didn't bother to check to see if it was part of a series. I'll read the other two books ASAP.

  10. Hi Sandra,

I am rubbish at reading a series of books in order, so I try to stick to stand alone novels as much as possible.

We don't get tornados much here in the UK, although they have been known to happen occasionally. My brother-in-law lives down on the South coast and arriving home one day, he could see several people out in the street in front of his house. When he approached and the crowds parted, he was greeted with a gaping hole in his roof and a tree through his wife's car. Eye witnesses saw a tornado appear from nowhere and missing every other property in the vicinity, hit his house directly!

Given the damage caused to his belongings, I can quite see how the person in your story was fearful of having the clothes torn from her back.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Yvonne

    1. Yikes! What a scary thing to happen to your brother-in-law. At least no one was injured. The author's description of the tornado in BLUEBONNET BRIDE was accurate and gave a real picture of how devastating those storms can be.

  11. I love books set in Texas! Tornadoes are a bit of a problem here, and I could definitely see them ripping more than clothes away. Love the premise for this book! Thanks for sharing!

    1. You're the second person who mentioned Marilyn Monroe! I didn't think of her when I read the scene, mainly because of the context in which it occurs. But I can see how Marilyn would come to mind from reading the two sentences I posted.
