Yeah! It's Tuesday! Time to find out what everyone's been reading. My Teaser Tuesday post today is from River's Song by Melody Carlson. Anna is the mom; Lauren is the daughter.
Her daughter had only graduated from high school a week ago, and yet Lauren already knew everything there was to know about everything, and she was quick to point out how much her mother didn't know. Anna had begged Lauren to join her on this trip. She thought it might improve their strained-to-breaking relationship.
(pg 11)
Synopsis from Melody Carlson's website:
Following her mother’s funeral, and on the verge of her own midlife crisis, widow Anna Larson returns to the home of her youth to sort out her parents’ belongings, as well as her own turbulent life. Her relationship with her daughter is in shambles, and the tension between Anna and her vicious mother-in-law escalates daily.
Anna's unique family home sits on a picturesque coastal tributary and is filled with years of memories. For the first time since childhood, Anna embraces her native heritage and river roots. But Anna soon learns that more than just her past resides along the banks of the Siuslaw River.
By transforming her old family home into The Inn at Shining Waters, Anna hopes to create a place of healing—a place where guests experience peace, grace, and new beginnings.
Starting with her own family . . .
This is Book One in the Inn at Shining Water series. I'm looking forward to reading Book Two -- River's Call.
Love the titles! And the teaser :) Sounds like a wonderful, heartwarming story of healing and forming new bonds and relationships. Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteIt was a really good tale. The protagonist was half Native American, and that added an extra dimension to the story.
DeleteGreat teaser! This isn't my typical kind of read, but I'm definitely intrigued. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't my typical type of read either, but I enjoyed it.
DeleteNice teaser, sounds like a good book. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Mine: The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra,
ReplyDeleteLove your teaser lines and the book sounds great as well.
I think that Melody has just about 'hit the nail on the head' when she says that Lauren thinks she knows everything about everything. This just highlights beautifully the confidence and forthrightness of today's young people, I would never have been so forward in my teenage days.
I foresee troubled waters ahead for mother and daughter, let's just hope that it will all come good in the end.
Yvonne
I believe the next book in the series in Lauren's story. That should be a good one too!
DeleteThe mother-daughter relationship can be fraught, can't it? Nice teaser!

This is the first book of hers I've read, and I enjoyed it. I especially liked her descriptions of the river and the community surrounding it. She took me somewhere I'd never been before.
DeleteI'm dealing with a sixteen-year-old now who thinks she knows everything, so I can certainly relate! Thanks for stopping by my teaser today :)
ReplyDeleteJenny Q: Don't worry. One day your daughter will come to you for advice, and you'll have to stop yourself from laughing at how your opinion is suddenly worth something!
DeleteWhat a great story this must be...I like the sound of it.

This sounds so sad. Good teaser.
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser. I absolutely love Melody Carlson's books. This one is new to me, but can sense the story from the teaser. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteGreat comments from everyone! FYI: A friend recommended this book to me, and I'm glad she did. The book is classified as Christian fiction, however I found no preaching or moralizing in it (and no profanity or sex). It's a good story with good writing -- no matter how it's labeled!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really thoughtful and sad book! Great teaser!
