Teaser Tuesday - Hot Issues, Cool Choices

Award Winning Kids Book - Dare to Dream
In her book Hot Issues, Cool Choices, Sandra McLeod Humphrey tackles the issue of bullying. Here's the opening sentence from Chapter 1:

My name is Erica, and my life is like totally wrecked. Maybe Angelina didn't mean to wreck it, and then again maybe she did.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away -- you don't want to ruin the book for others)
  • Share the title and author too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers.

  11. I am glad there are more books out on this topic, which is so important nowadays. I hope more young people will read it.

  12. I love how Erica expressed how she really felt, but then wanted to give Angelina the "benefit of doubt."

This book will be a great tool to use for effective discourse and dialogue between children. I hope that school counselors will take advantage of this book.

I would love for the Lead counselor in the district where I am employed to see it.

    Sandra is talented!

  13. Sandra H has confronted bullying with an awareness and insight that is more that necessary -- actually, it's really more of an obligation to support those caught in the awful web of being bullied and tormented. Good job, Sandra!

  29. This is a very important book because it says to children that this issue of bullying is important enough that someone has gone to the trouble of writing a book for children to help them deal with it! And I really like the way it begins, and in language I think children will relate to. Wonderful work!
