I've just started reading
THE MONDAY NIGHT NEEDLEWORK & MURDER GUILD by Kathleen Valentine, and I'm loving the author's voice. I think you'll see what I mean in today's excerpt. Retired school teacher Miss Cecelia McGill is narrating.
TEASER:
Eulalia was the sort of woman who needed a man, that was obvious. Poor Edgar barely had time to cool off properly before she flew to Sweden and spent a chunk of his fortune having all her body parts put back where they were when she nailed him.

Title: The Monday Night Needlework & Murder Guild
Author: Kathleen Valentine
Novella Length: 99 Pages
Amazon Link: HERE
Goodreads Synopsis:
Over fifty years ago Miss Serena Pitts founded The Monday Night Needlework and Murder Guild in the town of Pitts Crossing, Massachusetts. Members got together every week to share cookies and gossip while they did their needlework and discussed the latest murder mysteries. But when an unscrupulous lothario starts seducing and fleecing some of its members, the guild begins falling apart. That is until retired teacher, Miss Cecelia McGill, decides this cannot go on. With a blend of small town charm, dark comedy, and psychological suspense, Kathleen Valentine has created a "whydunnit" featuring a heroine readers will find hard to forget.

ReplyDeleteIt's a short one, Ruth. Just 99 pages. It'll make you smile.
DeleteI wonder what he did to spurn her actions...... great teaser!
ReplyDeleteSince we're limited to two sentences, I couldn't add the previous one -- which let you know Poor Edgar had died! That's why he cooled off.
DeleteSounds like it's loaded with humor. My teaser: Frost Burned
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite a read! My teaser come from Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott.

Oooh, I'm loving the sound of this one! I adore those clubs that come together for a purpose, like needlework, and then evolve into much more. Exciting things come about. Mysteries, or even just interesting gossip.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the sewing circles my mother attended...and I tagged along to see what I could learn...lol
Here's MY TUESDAY MEMES POST
I'm enjoying all the characters in this story, especially Cecelia. It's a fun story.
DeleteSandy, thank you SO much for selecting my novella! I love my Miss Cece - she's what we, in New England, call a "wicked pissah." I didn't know about Teaser Tuesday but I will definitely participate next week. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI love that term - "wicked pissah." It definitely describes Cecelia. I'm having a great time reading this book.
DeleteI'm already loving Cecelia :)

This sounds like a fascinating book. The cover is great, too. I wonder what town in MA the setting is inspired by. I've lived in MA my whole life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
Cheryl, Pitts Crossing is sort of a cross between Pride's Crossing and Marblehead. (I live in Gloucester.)
DeleteMy first thought: What happened here? Ha ha. It sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser from Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Aw. Poor Edgar. Hopefully things will look up for him. Interesting teaser. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
ReplyDeleteThe problem with these two-sentence posts is that you can't tell much. Poor Edgar is dead so there's not much help for him!
DeleteThis sounds like a really fun read! Thanks for sharing and for stopping by! Happy Reading :D
ReplyDeleteI love cross stitch, but at first this sounded old ladyish. Then I read the part about getting nailed and decided it wasn't old ladyish after all. LOL! Quite unexpected but enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteHA! This sounds like a fun one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping my teaser!

This is a case where the cover is deceptively innocent-looking, but the book sounds like it has some bite.
