Six Sentence Sunday - Sept 25

Does anybody remember necking at the drive-in?

I.O.U. SEX is the story of three women who make a pact to search for their former high school boyfriends—years after graduation.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been focusing on Kiki and her assignation with Greg, ending with her vow to “knock him off his pedestal.”

Starting this Sunday, we’ll be posting excerpts from June’s story. In this scene, memories from 1965 and her first love, Denny, surface. They’re in the back seat of his car at the Jefferson Drive-In in Dallas, and the windows are fogging over.

“You better slow down or you'll get more than you bargained for." He turned and grasped her shoulders, staring into her blue eyes. "Or have you changed your mind?"

June scooted away, her warm feelings cooled by Denny's question. She pushed her long blonde hair off her face and anchored it behind her ears. "You know how I feel about going all the way—why can't we just have some fun?"

We think you’ll agree that Denny’s idea of “fun” might not be the same as June’s. An eighteen-year-old male’s hormones seem to change his perspective on everything, don’t you think?

Six Sentence Sunday - Sept 11

We’ve skipped the last couple of Sundays, but we’re back today with more from I.O.U. SEX. This entry wraps up the rendezvous between Kiki and her former steady who is now "Reverend" Greg. Kiki discovers even a man of God isn’t always as holy as he appears to be.

Kiki cranked the car's ignition and pealed out of the parking lot. She shifted into high gear and tore down the street, her anger hotter than the sun-baked pavement.
Greg has no idea who he's messing with. He's right--this isn't finished. Not by a long shot. I'm gonna knock that sanctimonious sack of shit off his pedestal if it's the last thing I ever do.

Six Sentence Sunday - Aug 14

Six more sentences from I.O.U. SEX. When three women track down their high school boyfriends, they get more than one surprise. In Kiki's rendezvous with Greg (he's now a televangelist), she has to defend herself against his rough treatment and smacks him in the nose with her elbow. Blood splatters his chest. Then ...

He pointed at her with an outstretched arm. "Seductress. Daughter of Satan. Come here and minister to my needs."
Kiki stopped only long enough to grab a Bible from a nearby table and heave it at him. When the sharp corner of the book hit Greg square on the bridge of his nose, he screamed and collapsed back onto the carpet.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - Aug 7

We really appreciate all the kind comments we've received on our novel, so this week we're again posting six more sentences from I.O.U. SEX. It's the story of three women who track down their high school boyfriends to give them the sex they never allowed as teenagers. In this scene, Kiki has rendezvoused with her old boyfriend Greg (who's now a televangelist), but things are going from bad to worse. He has ordered her to submit to him and he's playing way too rough.

Though a little wrestling could sometimes be fun, Kiki realized Greg had gone way beyond a playful tussle. He wasn't teasing.
"Obey, woman." Greg spoke in a voice pitched to reach the back rows of his congregation. He reached for her lace thong.
"Like hell I will," Kiki growled, really afraid now and angry enough to rip the hair from his head.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY-July 31

Another Sunday, another six sentences! Again, we're taking our six from I.O.U. SEX, the story of three women who track down their high school boyfriends to give them the sex they never allowed years before. In this scene, Kiki has rendezvoused with her old boyfriend Greg (who's now a televangelist), but things aren't going exactly as she'd envisioned.

Kiki crawled onto the bed like a tigress stalking its prey, leaned against Greg, and slid her hand up his thigh. "First let's see what you've got," she growled. She felt Greg stiffen. When her hand reached higher, she realized the stiffness was in his spine and not where she'd hoped.

Greg grasped Kiki's shoulders, then her hands, and shoved her onto her back, pinning her arms over her head. "Submit," he hissed.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - July 17

This week's Six Sentence Sunday entry is again from I.O.U. SEX, the story of three friends who make a pact to find their high school boyfriends (years after graduation) to give them the sex the women vetoed back then.
In this scene, Kiki has agreed to meet her ex-boyfriend Greg in a hotel suite. Greg is a televangelist, and the suite is kept by his ministry. Kiki's curious about Greg and what goes on in this room. It doesn't take long for her to find out.

Moving closer, Greg reached behind her and lowered the zipper down the back of her dress. He eased it off her shoulders and let it slide to the floor, revealing a lacy red bra and matching thong underneath.
Greg whistled. “Honey, you’re enough to make a man forget the Seventh Commandment.” He stroked her breasts through the lace.

Kiki gasped, surprised that his touch aroused her, and then took a deep breath.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - July 10

We're once again contributing six sentences from our novel I.O.U. SEX. It's the story of three women who make a pact to track down their old high school steadies to pay them back for the sex they never gave them. Prior to this scene, Kiki has learned that her former boyfriend is now a minister who preaches against homosexuality, and she's appalled by his message. She has discovered he will be speaking at a fundraising event, and she is determined to talk to him face to face. Here's what she encounters.

Kiki stood on tiptoe to see a man with bright pink hair shaking his fists above his head. A conga line snaked behind him, dancing through the crush of protestors. Soon more people joined the mix, pumping their placards up and down to the rhythm, marching behind their leader. Some thumped plastic buckets, drumming their outrage in a staccato beat while others blew whistles or tooted kazoos, creating a cacophony of noise.
When a TV van arrived, the crew’s bright lights brought the protestors’ signs into sharp focus—Ban Homophobia, GLBT Power, We’re God’s Children Too. The whole scene reminded Kiki of the 1960s, but those signs had read—Make Love, Not War and Hell No, We Won’t Go.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - July 3

This week we're including another six sentences from I.O.U. SEX. In this scene, June is remembering a weekend when her boyfriend from Texas drove all the way to Berkeley to visit her at UC. This took place in the mid-1960s.

When he went inside the motel office to register, June waited in the darkened car, alone with her thoughts. Without Denny by her side, doubts and fears flashed through her mind as quickly as the blinking neon vacancy sign outside the car window. She thought of the other college co-eds who had surely been to this motel before her—maybe even girls from her dorm—and wondered whether they'd shared her misgivings. In late night confessionals, some of her dorm-mates had laughed at her naïveté, calling her old fashioned, amused by her good-girl ways. They shocked her with their drinking, cussing, and smoking; and their open attitudes towards sex left her wondering if she was the only virgin left in California. Though she'd moved to the most liberal college in America, she'd brought her Texas values with her.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY - June 26

This week we're continuing with our character June from I.O.U. SEX, the novel where three women search for their high school boyfriends. This week, June is recalling the scene where she broke it off with her overbearing ex-husband.

With each step June took away from Stan, she felt stronger.
            Asshole, creep, SOB.
All the names she’d called Stan in her head over the years surfaced and raced across her brain, like a thesaurus of profanity. She pulled her suitcase from the closet and slammed it onto the bed. When she turned, Stan stood blocking the doorway with his arms over his chest.
            Narcissist, douche bag, prick.

6 SENTENCE SUNDAY - May 22

We got such a positive response last week that we're continuing with Peggy, one of the three women in I.O.U. SEX who's on a hunt for her high school boyfriend (decades after graduation!)
Setup: Peggy is meeting with private investigator James Hornby, intent on hiring him to find her high school boyfriend.

"How long do you anticipate this search will take?" Peggy cringed at the pleading note that crept into her voice, wondering if Hornby's dismissive looks or the run she'd just noticed in her pantyhose had caused her self-confidence to flee so quickly. She crossed her legs to hide the unsightly tear.
She wished he'd quit clicking that darned pen and fiddling with his frigging Blueberry or Raspberry or whatever it was called. Peggy suppressed the urge to reach across the desk, snatch it out of his hands, and fling it across the room. Instead, she clasped her hands in her lap, her need of the man's services overriding her desire to cram his electronic toy up his nose.

6 SENTENCE SUNDAY - May 15

Six more sentences this week from I.O.U. SEX. Setup: The three friends decide to hunt down their high school boyfriends. One of them (Peggy) gives up on internet research and decides to hire a professional to help in her search.

One week later Peggy sat in the office of James Hornby, P.I. Decked out in her best Ferragamo shoes and plus-size designer suit, she hoped she appeared to be a woman of means. This whole adventure was so far outside her normal experience and comfort level that she needed all the help she could get. Wearing nice clothes usually made her feel more confident. At the moment, though, her feet hurt and she couldn't help but wonder if she didn't resemble the Pillsbury Dough Boy trussed up in silk. She just hoped she didn't fall off her high-heeled shoes and ruin the effect she'd worked so hard to create.

This snippet takes place in Chapter 1 of I.O.U. SEX, when the three friends read June's high school diary and come up with the idea to search for their old boyfriends.

Kiki rolled her eyes. "Shit, if I'd known then what I know now, things would have been very different. When I think of the staying power of those eighteen-year-old guys ...." She sighed. "Too bad we wasted it."
Peggy put her hand over her mouth to keep her drink from spewing out with her laughter.
